Directors
Andrew Rafferty has been the owner/ president of A Better Restoration, Inc. for over 20 years. Andrew was born in Norwalk, Connecticut and moved to Menlo Park at the age of 10. He graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory High School, and then attended Gonzaga University where he received his degree in Biology. He has also attended Canada Junior College, Santa Clara University, San Jose State University, San Diego State University, and worked on a cardiac research program at Stanford University. His career has varied as much as his plethora of interests. By the time Andrew had graduated from College, he had already had 34 different jobs (the true starving student). After graduation, while applying to medical schools, Andrew, a newly wed, found out that he was to be a father, and changed career goals. He went to work for Parke Davis Pharmaceuticals for 2 years, then went to U.S. Surgical where, after 1 year, became area regional manager for the Mississippi West selling internal and external stapling devices and instruction the 156 new technique surgeries. Tired of traveling, he went to work for Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate in the Silicon Valley and remained there for 5 years. Due to his love of medicine and science, he then went to work for Howmedica, instructing surgery and selling orthopedic implants. He began Carpet Wizardry in 1989 which grew into A Better Restoration. He is the holder of 18 IICRC certifications in the in the industry including the highest ratings available, namely, a master cleaner of all carpet and textiles, master water restorer, and master fire and smoke restorer. He is a general contractor and hazardous materials contractor licensed in the state of California. There is nothing Andrew likes more than to help people. His employees and clients love his approachability and helpful attitude.
Administration
Cheryl Harvey has worked here for 12 years. She was born and raised in Iowa. Upon graduating from AIB business school in Des Moines she moved to California. Cheryl worked as a cost accountant for Kaiser Sand and Gravel for 16 years and then opened her own business in the food industry. She loves helping people and when you call our office she will be talking to you. She is very upbeat, pleasant and helpful. She has been customer service oriented her entire adult life. Everybody loves Cheryl!
Project Managers
Ted Kruschke was born and raised in a small town in Minnesota. He played inter collegiate basketball and football (quarterback). He is married and also father to a teen age daughter, in whom he takes exceptional pride. 17 years ago, Ted moved to the Bay Area and entered the restoration industry. From his experience in athletics, Ted knows the meaning of hard work and dedication; and applies them to all his endeavors. Leadership skills come naturally to him. Clients love him because he listens, reacts to solve their problems in the swiftest, cost effective way, and treats each project as if it were paramount. Ted does a fabulous job and is a tremendous asset to the company. He is IICRC certified. Many times, customers have expressed, with confidence, what a pleasure it is working with him. When asked how he does it, he responded, “When I walk into someone’s home or building that has been damaged, I ask myself, ‘What would I do if this were my place’.”
Technicians
Jose Escalona has taken certification classes for Carpet Cleaning, Stone, Tile and water damage. He is an IICRI Technician with four years experience. He was born in Mexico and came to California when he was a small boy. He is an extremely caring person and likes dealing with people. He is a bubbly, aim-to-please, happy kind of guy! He might clean your carpets, stone, tile, extract water from your water damage or remediate your mold problems. He is a special person and our customers just love Jose!
Abdon (Freddy) Vargas was born in Mexico and came to California when he was a teenager and has been making a living all his adult life doing carpentry, sheetrock patching, texturing, and painting. He has been trained and schooled in the art of water damage, mold and carpet cleaning since he joined the ABRI family. He is a very pleasant, mild mannered young man. Freddy is a perfectionist when it comes to his work. You can’t help but like Freddy!
Luke Huntgate is our newest addition to the ABRI family. He was born and raised in San Jose, California. Luke has been working in the industry as a water/mold technician for over 6 years and is IICRC certified. Luke is a quiet, conscientious, young man. He will definitely go the extra mile for our customers.
